Combs receives Community Cornerstone Award

CornerBank has announced Brenda Combs is the Community Cornerstone Award recipient for October. In recognition of her service, CornerBank will contribute $100 to the Legacy Community Foundation to support additional community development projects. A reception honoring Brenda's service will be at 3:30 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 5, in the CornerBank community room, 125 N. Summit. The public is invited to attend the reception.

Brenda has served six years on the board of the Arkansas City Arts Council. She serves on the campaign leadership committee for the Burford project and reigned as Mardi Gras Queen at the PrairieFest fundraising party. She has made countless hors d' oeuvres and has served on various committees for the Arts Council.

Brenda is an active member of Central Christian Church where she has been the church organist for 15 years. She also accompanies the adult and children's choirs and has served as high school youth director, high school Sunday school instructor, coordinator of youth Sunday, chairman of the church Valentine dinner and Community Thanksgiving dinner representative.

She has served on the Arkalalah Visiting Queen Committee five years. She is a member of PEO, Beta Sigma Phi sorority, Junior Service League and Chalice Casting Co. Brenda's various other volunteer activities include hosting a Cowley College tennis player, hosting theme dinners for the Chamber and Arts Council, assisting the youth choir at Cowley College's production of Joseph and the Technicolor Dreamcoat and providing piano entertainment for the Chamber's annual banquet.

Brenda graduated from Osage City High School, where she performed in numerous national piano auditions. She graduated from Emporia State University with a business administration degree. She has worked for various financial institutions and as a substitute teacher. Currently she is an owner and the vice president of human resources and marketing at
Mid-Continent Financial.

She and her husband, Clint, have been married 28 years. They have two sons: Tyler, who attends Cowley College, and Travis, who attends the University of Kansas.

Brenda was selected for the award by the Community Cornerstone Award selection committee, which includes Dolly Bonfy, Karl Faidley, Erv Knocke, Arleta Rice and Judy Reedy. All are previous recipients of the Cornerstone Award. Volunteers are the cornerstones of healthy communities. They're on your corner - the people next door.
