Shirley Rhodes

Shirley Rhodes - Assistant Vice President

Shirley Rhodes has been promoted to Assistant Vice President in Douglass. She joined the bank in 1991 as a part-time teller. An Oklahoma native, she attended college at NWOSU in Alva, Oklahoma. She has called Kansas home since 1975. She has worked in the loan department and as a personal banker and continues to assist customers with accounts and other banking needs. She attends New Spring Church in Wichita and is a member of the Douglass Historical Society, PEO and Friends of the Library.

Ann Richardson

Ann Richardson - Assistant Vice President, Internal Audit & Compliance Officer

Ann Richardson has been promoted to Assistant Vice President, Internal Audit & Compliance Officer. Ann joined CornerBank in 1998 as a personal banker after spending the previous 10 years working in law enforcement and juvenile court services for Cowley County and the State of Kansas. Ann has received a Certified Community Bank Compliance Officer designation from Independent Community Bankers of America. She is a graduate of Southwestern College (Cum Laude) with degrees in Health, Physical Education & Recreation and Biology. Ann is a member of the Institute of Internal Auditors and Heartland Compliance Group and has professional affiliation through CornerBank with American Bankers Association, Independent Community Bankers of America and Kansas Bankers Association. She is a past Vice President of Safe Homes and has volunteered her time with several community organizations.

Karen Sandstrom

Karen Sandstrom - Assistant Vice President, Deposit Operations

Karen Sandstrum has been promoted to Assistant Vice President, Deposit Operations. She joined the bank in 1984, working in Oxford. She has worked in several areas of the bank, including as a teller and in customer service, as well as office manager in Wellington, and now serves as a personal banker at CornerBank’s 1421 South Main location in Winfield. She is originally from Wellington and lived in Oxford for many years where she was a member of the Oxford Christian Church and served as Sunday school superintendent, Sunday school teacher and Bible school teacher. She was secretary of the Oxford Planning Commission, co-chairman of CornerBank’s Relay for Life team and volunteered for Habitat for Humanity and Isle of Lights.

Bruce Schwyhart

Bruce Schwyhart - President/CEO

Bruce Schwyhart is President/CEO of CornerBank and leads the bank’s Executive Committee. He joined CornerBank in 1996 and has more than 35 years in financial services, with more than 29 years serving in a CEO capacity. He serves as Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors for CornerBank and Cornerstone Alliance, Ltd.

His community service includes leadership on a wide variety of local and state boards, including the Kansas Bankers Association; Kansas Co-op Council; Kansas Area United Methodist Foundation; University of Kansas Lied Center; Cowley First Advisory Council; Twin Rivers Development; William Newton Healthcare Foundation; Winfield Area Chamber of Commerce; Winfield Area Habitat for Humanity; Marquee Performing Arts Center; and Grace United Methodist Church. Additionally, Schwyhart has taught in the Southwestern College MBA program. He received the Business Builder Award from Southwestern College in 2010.

Bruce graduated from Emporia State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business. He completed graduate work at Wichita State University and earned his Certified Financial Planning certification through the College for Financial Planning in Denver.

He and his wife, Debra, have three children: Dru and his wife, Leila, and their daughter, Haven, who live in Denver; Devin, who attends the University of Kansas working on a degree in film; and Dara, who lives in Spokane, WA, and is working on a masters degree in creative writing at Eastern Washington University. Debra is an elementary physical education teacher at Country View in the Winfield Public School system. Bruce enjoys golfing, snow skiing, gardening, walking, touring, and KSU, KU, WSU and ESU sports.

Jill Smith

Jill Smith - Vice President, Lending

Jill Smith is Vice President, Lending, at CornerBank’s Arkansas City location. Jill joined CornerBank in 1998 as a loan officer after spending the previous four years with a larger financial institution in retail sales and mortgage and consumer processing. Jill specializes in consumer lending, commercial lending, mortgage lending and credit card services. She is also a licensed life insurance agent with experience in life insurance and disability insurance.

Jill is a graduate of the Oklahoma Commercial School of Banking. She has a Bachelor’s degree from Oklahoma State University. Jill was Chamber of Commerce chairman in 2010 and currently serves on the board of directors. She is president of ACMS Site Council and served for more than five years with their boards. Jill is a member of the Central Christian Church in Ark City and assists with various youth activities. Jill has served in various capacities with the PTO, Modern Mothers Study Club and Ace Fund.
