Sauzeks Receive the Community Cornerstone Award
 

CornerBank has announced that Donna and Gus Sauzek are the Oxford Community Cornerstone Award winners for the month of April. A reception honoring their service was held at 4 p.m.., Tuesday, April 19, in the CornerBank Oxford lobby, 101 N. Sumner. The public was invited to attend the reception.

Donna has been involved as a 4-H leader and at the Oxford Friendship Center. She served the First Baptist Church in Oxford as a Sunday school teacher, organist, pianist, member of adult choir and director of the junior choir.

Gus served as a 4-H leader and formed a 4-H band. He was a member of the Full Gospel Business organization, serving as song leader, secretary and president.

Gus and Donna met in 1999 at the Oxford Friendship Center, which is where they combined their musical talents entertaining residents in area nursing homes. Both are members of the United Methodist Church in Oxford and members of the Homebuilders Sunday school class where Donna is serving as teacher. She serves as organist, pianist and a member of United Methodist Women. Gus is a member of United Methodist Men.

Their combined families include Ed Sauzek, Ponca City; Roy Sauzek and Larry Sauzek, Wellington; Sharon Lind and Alan Wollard, Ark City; Carl Wollard, Durant, OK; and John Wollard, Ulysses, KS. They have 27 grandchildren and 35 great-grandchildren.

Sauzeks were selected for the award by the Community Cornerstone Award selection committee. The Community Cornerstone Award recognizes the time and effort of volunteers dedicated to serving people and enhancing the quality of life in Sumner County.
