Greene Receives the Community Cornerstone Award

CornerBank has announced that Toni Greene is the Community Cornerstone Award winners for the month of March. In recognition of their service, CornerBank will contribute $100 to the Legacy Community Foundation to support additional community development projects. A reception honoring Greene’s service was held at 3:30 p.m., Wednesday, March 30, in the CornerBank community room, 125 N. Summit, Arkansas City, KS.

“Toni is an inspiration to everyone who knows her,” said Joyce McArtor, CornerBank vice president.  “She jumps into projects with both feet.  Her faith and activism really motivate the people around her to be active servant leaders.”

She is active in AMBUCS and served as president in 2004.  For nine years, she has been chairperson for the Outstanding Student of the Year award.  Other activities include the American Red Cross, Habitat for Humanity, Kasha Kelley’s State House campaign, the Ark City Senior Center, Little Mr. & Miss Arkalalah, National Night Out, American Heart Association, Jerry Lewis MDA and a foster parent at Cowley College.  She is a member of the Leadership Cowley County class of 2005.

Toni was a member of the Ark City Church of God in Christ.  She worked with the youth at the church, as well as on the financial team.  Toni also was the Sunday school field representative, member of the Young Women’s Christian Council, and State President of the Business and Professional Women’s Federation.  She now attends Eastside Cathedral of Praise in Wichita.

Toni is the daughter of James and Nina Mack.  She graduated from high school in Parsons and went on to attend Labette County Community College, majoring in Business.  She has lived in Ark City nearly 14 years.  She managed the Cato’s clothing store and worked for Harvey’s Fashions.  Currently, she is employed with Home National Bank, where she has been a teller more than 10 years.  She and her husband, Edward, have one daughter, Deja.  They will soon have their first granddaughter, Jordyn, who is due in May.

Toni was selected for the award by the Community Cornerstone Award selection committee, which includes Karl Faidley, Donna Avery, Dolly Bonfy, Erv Knocke and Wayne Short.  All are previous recipients of the Cornerstone Award.  Volunteers are the cornerstones of healthy communities.  They’re on your corner – the people next door.  They’re in your corner – helping make our community stronger.  The Community Cornerstone Award recognizes the time and effort of volunteers dedicated to serving people and enhancing the quality of life in Cowley County.  If you know of a Cowley County resident who has shown servant leadership in community service, contact CornerBank at 442-6500 for nomination guidelines.
