Lloyd moved to Ark City in 1991 and has made a tremendous impact
with his volunteer service. He served as a city commissioner
from 2003 until 2005 and served on the City zoning and planning commissions.
He was treasurer for the Cowley County Republican Party in 1999-2000. He
received the No Ordinary Joe Award from the City in 2001 and the
Good Neighbor Award in 2006.
He has assisted the Arkansas City Chamber of Commerce and the Convention
and Visitors Bureau in numerous capacities, including interim director
of the CVB three times and Chamber Ambassador. He and Leonard
Groene built Santa’s workshop in 2005. He currently is
working on the CVB billboard in Tonkawa, OK. He was an assistant
to the Arkalalah director from 1997 until 2002. He designed
and built the runway used for coronation, collected money for ticket
sales and built a ticket box.
Lloyd serves on the Advisory Board of Presbyterian Manor. He
has been a committee member of the Dick Metz Golf Tournament since
1999, serving as co-chair four years. He is a lifetime member
of the First United Methodist Church, where he is active in the Genesis
Sunday school class, and has served on the staff parish committee,
nominating committee, council of ministries and as an usher.
Additional volunteer activities include the Ark City Rotary Club,
Historic Preservation Committee, Cherokee Strip Land Rush Museum
Centennial Board, Burford Theater renovation and Habitat for Humanity.
Lloyd was born and raised in Iowa, but went to Lexington, Missouri,
his senior year in high school to attend Wentworth Military Academy. He
graduated from Wentworth and also received his Associate of Science
degree from there and a Commission as 2nd Lieutenant in the Army. While
at Wentworth, he received the Outstanding ROTC Award, Outstanding
Company Commander and the Jack Burr Award for Outstanding Loyalty,
Leadership and Service, the highest award given by Wentworth to a
cadet. He served with the Marines in World War II and in the
Army during the Korean War. He received the World War II Victory
Medal, Combat Infantry Badge, Bronze Star and some campaign medals.
In 1950, he married Rita Martin. She died in 1998. They
have two children, Christie Lisk Rogers, Ark City; and Lloyd Martin
(Marty) Lisk, Houston, Texas; and eight grandchildren, Melissa, Scott
and Becci Rogers; and Shane, Brandon, Charlie, Brandon and Patrick
Lisk. Lloyd worked for Butler
Manufacturing Company from 1955 until his retirement in 1991. His
work with the company took him to Kansas City, MO; North Platte,
NE; Springfield, MO; Houston, TX; Albuquerque, NM; and Dallas, TX.
Lloyd was selected for the award by the Community Cornerstone Award
selection committee, which includes Kim Ebert, Karl Faidley, Donna
Avery, Dolly Bonfy, Erv Knocke and Wayne Short. All are previous
recipients of the Cornerstone Award. Volunteers are the cornerstones
